Doggy station number 3 & the decision to go weekly

Doggy station number 3 & the decision to go weekly

Sunday 9th April, the hottest day of the year so far. And while hoards of people flocked to parks and seasides to take full advantage of the Spring sunshine, DOTS were of course out in action with our doggy station. Before pitching up on The Strand, founder Michelle detoured to pick up 180 bottles of mineral water in preparation for meeting the homeless and their hot dogs. Some for slurping, some for splashing. The DOTS team saw the warm weather as a great opportunity to educate the doggy owners as to the importance of keeping their dogs hydrated. We welcomed 4 dogs to our station this time round… Playful newbie, Rocky who was recommended by a previous station visitor. His owner was a bit concerned about a lump he’d found on him so we promised that on his next visit he will get free access to our street vet for further specialist inspection. Rocky is now registered with DOTS by way of one of...

A sunny day for doggy station number 2 – The Strand London

April 2nd saw us setting up for doggy station number two, but this time the sun shone for us and our four-legged friends who paid a visit. Again the wonderful DOTS team were in action; Jade the Street Vet,Fees Pamper Camper, City Sit Stay, plus our wonderful supporters Huxley Hound and charity All Dogs Matter. Remember Misty from our first doggy station? Well, she came back for more! It’s so nice to see familiar faces return to us for essential care…and in Misty’s case a lot of donated biscuits from the wonderful Gails Bakery and Huxley Hound! She chomped those down in no time, before enjoying a nice bubble bath of course, courtesy of Fee’s Pamper Camper.     A really encouraging thing happened regarding Misty too. A few days prior to the station, DOTS founder Michelle received a phone call from someone who had ‘found’ Misty on the streets. Thanks to the I.D tag on her collar supplied at the first station, the...

When DOTS met J, Tess, Papion and Rug Rat

When DOTS met J, Tess, Papion and Rug Rat

This is a tale with a happy ending that DOTS is just over the moon to share with you. Back in February this year, a 57 year old man called J found himself homeless with his three dearest furry friends; Tess the Collie, Rug Rat the 17 year old Yorkie and mixed breed Papion. J had been living alone with his dogs outside of London and had been subjected to both verbal and physical abuse to the point that he was fearful for the life of himself and his dogs. J saw no way out but to escape the terrifying situation as quickly as possible and in a cold February was walking the streets of London, his 3 buddies in tow. J suffers from long term health conditions that requires  medication and care which can prove difficult when subjected to a life on the streets. So when DOTS founder, Michelle was tagged in a Facebook post alerting her to J’s situation, she made contact with...

Our very first dog station – The Strand, London

Our very first dog station – The Strand, London

After 5 years of taking to the streets serving the homeless and their doggy companions, Sunday March 12th saw DOTS founder Michelle launching the very first Doggy Station on The Strand, London. Accompanied by her DOTS team - Jade the Street Vet, Fees Pamper Camper and City Dog Expert  - they were ready to welcome the homeless and their pooches for an afternoon of doggy health care and treats.  Have you ever passed by a homeless person with a loyal dog by their side? Chances are you have. Their pets are everything to them; their only companion, their protector and possibly their only source of love, warmth and joy. They can be a reason to keep going. But owning a dog when you’re homeless also brings with it a sometimes daunting responsibility. With little money and two mouths to feed and bodies to keep warm and healthy, access to veterinary care, food and doggy essentials can be hard to come by. Until now!! Providing...
