Sunday station 16…A busy day indeed!

Sunday station 16…A busy day indeed!

Sunday 16th of July saw the return of our weekly doggy station on The Strand and oh lordy was it a busy one! You never really know who might turn up from week to week and as our numbers of registered dogs grows all the time, we’re bound to have a bumper edition every now and then. With the street chalk art that one of our homeless buddies does for us all ready, we were set. This week we welcomed 8 doggies to our station… First up, Jethro…who likes to be up high! This boy is a right character. When his dad is on the move around London he quite often likes to have a better vantage point as he sits perched on his dads shoulders! He swung by to have his second vaccination and for dad to get some advice on having Jethro (ssssshhh…!) castrated. Of course dad wouldn't be in a position to pay for this procedure so DOTS is happy to start...

Sunday Doggy station 15…Pool party!

Sunday Doggy station 15…Pool party!

Ok, don’t speak too soon but have you noticed that we’re on a bit of a sunshiny roll at the moment? And last Sunday was no exception! So what better excuse to set up a mini doggy pool party on the pavement of The Strand huh? That’s right, team DOTS decided that to make sure our visitors were cool and calm at this street station, that we would provide a couple of paddling pools under a gazebo for the doggies to splash around in to help regulate their temperatures in the summer sun. But would it be a hit with the pups? Let’s find out… It’s a no from Jethro Our first furry visitor was Jethro who was in need of a further anal gland drain - yikes! - which was very gently done before he was then spoilt with lots of goodies for being such a brave boy. Maybe it was the fingers up the bum treatment that put him off, but...

Our second Kings Cross hub station

Our second Kings Cross hub station

Last night, July 12th, saw the return of our weekly Kings Cross hub station where we were armed with doggy essentials and veterinary professionals to tend to the doggies that we perhaps don't get to meet on The Strand every Sunday. It’s so encouraging to hear that word of DOTS is spreading among the homeless community as many of the new additions to be registered with DOTS at Kings Cross are showing up to this new hub station via word of mouth. Last night we added a few little newbies to the DOTS register, plus welcomed some familiar faces all of which got tons of loving care. We love you doggies. So, without further ado… Lovely lady Ellie Our first visitor of the evening was 14 year old Ellie. Ellie will need to come to our main station to receive further support so we hope to see her Sunday. We found out that Ellie is fearful of buses though, they make her poorly sick so...

Doggy station number 14…and a big THANK YOU

Doggy station number 14…and a big THANK YOU

Another sunny summers Sunday rolled in again and team DOTS were setting up for street station number 14! Well technically now it's number 15 seeing as we've since launched a hub station in Kings Cross, but who's counting? ;) Can you believe that we’re 4 months in to this? It’s whizzing by and we’re just so grateful for all the support so far. So here’s a moment to just say a whopping THANK YOU to those who give their time, expertise and care to the countless street doggies and their owners. To the growing number of product partners; Barking Heads, Nature Diet, Kong, Huxley Hound, Butternut Box,  Mikki Pet UK, Harley Bear Coco Bites, Spotted Hound UK, Wild Paws… From the ongoing supporters to the one off treaters - THANK YOU. And more recently to those of you who are doing some amazing fundraising activity to help support us. From making and selling things to cutting off hair…we’re blown away! So, drum roll...

New doggy station launches! Kings Cross, London

New doggy station launches! Kings Cross, London

Last week saw the launch of our second doggy station, this time in Kings Cross, London. As DOTS expands to cater to the needs of the Capitals street dogs, we are so excited to reveal that this new station will be a weekly thing! Every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, outside Kings Cross Station on the corner of York Way, DOTS will be setting up a ‘hub’ version of the main weekly street station with a table full of essentials for the homeless to pop along to and grab what they need for their trusty and loved companions. As well as essentials like food and leads, dogs will also be able to receive full health checks and a plan of action should further veterinary treatment  or investigations be required. A main reason for this second weekly station is that having one location can be a bit tricky for some homeless dog owners to get to depending on where they usually bed down. Expanding...

Doggy station 13…Lucky for some!

Doggy station 13…Lucky for some!

What a week it’s been! From attending a very hot Dog Fest where Michelle gathered up loads of new goodies for the street dogs including cooling bandanas and where our very own head vet Jade won an award, to starting our lovely street dog Lola on hydrotherapy treatment for her elbow dysplasia and a successful mammary mass surgery on Lucky. It’s been go go go! For those who follow us on Twitter or Instagram too, you’ll see that we recently put out a plea for help to find our missing homeless friend Lachlan and his dog Misty who regularly feature on the blog as attendees at pretty much every one of our street stations. In a matter of days, Michelle received news that they had been spotted! So watch this space, we’re hoping for a very waggy tailed ending as these two are very special to us… As the last Sunday of the month, Sunday June 25th was what we like to...

Doggy station 12…and extra help from Marc the Vet and Shakira Free Miles!

June 18th. A beautiful summers day in a London completely shaken by the terrible incident at Grenfell Tower. And also, Fathers Day. A time for kids to treat their dads to a card and some of his favourite treats. And to just show the love, now more than ever it feels. And why should the love just be for human daddies hey? Team DOTS were again out in force, setting up the street station ready to welcome some fur babies and their own daddies to provide love, care and peace of mind. And of course, goodies! Excitingly, this particular week we were joined by two amazing volunteers; Marc the Vet and Shakira Free Miles. Marc is a practicing veterinary surgeon, author, and animal welfare campaigner based in Brighton, England and you might have seen him on your telly! He was the resident vet on The Paul O’Grady Show and regularly appears on shows like BBC Breakfast, This Morning and Good Morning Britain giving...

Station number 10…in a defiant London

Station number 10…in a defiant London

Sunday June 4th was a sad day as people awoke to the news of the terror attack near London Bridge the night before. Team DOTS made the decision on Sunday morning to carry on, not least because we wanted to ensure that our homeless friends and their doggies were accounted for and safe. On that note, we are delighted to say that each and every one is. It’s at times like these that human compassion is the only answer. We rally around those in need, those in shock and disbelief. And this is the essence of our values here at DOTS, through and through. Before we move on to covering our station last week, we just want to share a public wish of strength to those effected by the atrocious violent acts that took place. Our thoughts are with you… —————————————— Although London felt shaken and subdued last Sunday morning, it was a surprising day in that we still welcomed 8 street dogs to...

Doggy station 9…Misty and Cassie come for post op checkups plus we welcome another Tyson!

Hi, Vicky here…DOTS blogger, obviously! But this blog gets a bit more of a first hand account from me than most, because yesterday, Sunday May 28th was the first time I’d been to a DOTS station since coming on board to help. I arrived at The Strand around 1.30pm to find Michelle coordinating the set up and Jade parking up before starting to unload bits for the veterinary tent. I joined in time to help hoist up the red DOTS canopy alongside Pamper Camper Fee and vet Gabe before we started filling up the trestle tables with doggy essentials. Food from our partners Barking Heads, Nature Diet, treats from Huxley Hound (with their lovely Zena in attendance too), Kongs, leads, collars, harnesses and muzzles. Squeaky toys, poo bags, dog bowls. Bottles of water, foodie treats for the homeless doggy owners. My mind was already blown before we were ready to roll.             Because the weather was so warm this week, a...

Station number 8…meet our tiniest street dog yet and Cassie has surgery

As we gear up for possibly our hottest doggy station yet this coming Sunday (May 28th), not to mention our first focused inoculation session…let’s look back on last Sunday, May 21st… Each week, before the weekly station starts, quite often some of the homeless doggy owners now join us a little earlier to assist us in setting up. From helping us to secure the branded canopy, to decorating the pavement around us with lovely chalked artwork. Check this lot out! And last Sunday, to add to the already beautiful pavement art, we were visited by Sara Abbot and her friend Natasha who did a wonderful doggy portrait of one of our canine guests, Ty. Wow! Our first visit was from Lola who enjoyed one of our station Kongs filled up with Arden Grange paste which is a special yummy treat for these street dogs! Lola is such a lovely playful pup and when her belly was full she wanted to show...
