Sunday station 27…and 10 lovely friends

Sunday station 27…and 10 lovely friends

Each Sunday it’s never set in stone just how many precious four legged friends Team DOTS is going to see. Sometimes we have an inkling when owners give Michelle the heads up that they intend to swing by, other times we are reacquainted with doggies who we haven't seen in a while, not to mention complete newbies! Our last Sunday station, October 8th, was a right mix when we saw a wonderful 10 furry friends! Luckily Team DOTS was well manned including new vet Chrissy, Kimberley our trainer, Emma from Purple Bone London, Anna, Robyn, Lesley, Lauren and our homeless buddy Lachlan (the late Misty’s daddy). So let’s meet the 10 furries shall we? Another Tyson… Perhaps not the Tyson you’re used to having updates on, but just as handsome! He is one of the dogs we haven't seen for a while now so it was great that Tyson’s dad knew that if he needed to see us, he knew exactly where to come. After...

Sunday station 26…and a visit from the Dog Whisperer!

It might have been a grey and breezy Autumnal day yesterday, Sunday 1st October, but nothing will stop the bright and bubbly Team DOTS from setting up the weekly doggy station on The Strand! Check out this lovely lot, ready to go! We had vets, a vet nurse, trainer and station volunteers on hand to see to our doggy arrivals and to chat to their humans. We even had a special guest pay us a visit, Dr Roger Mugford! For those who  don't know, Roger is known as Britain's leading animal psychologist (or ‘dog whisperer’!), not to mention being a prolific author, educator and animal welfare advocate. He came down with his beloved doggy Shadow who he rescued from a terrible fate at a Korean Meat Farm! Was lovely to see them both and show them all about DOTS…Thanks for joining! We saw 6 precious four leggies this week, so without further ado… Whadda Babe Of course this gorgeous gal came down to see...

A big THANK YOU to Above the Line Security

A big THANK YOU to Above the Line Security

At first glance you could be forgiven for not seeing the similarities between DOTS and Above The Line, the hugely-respected company that provides on-set services for the British film industry. But you’d be wrong! Where Above The Line provides security for everyone working on a film, DOTS always has the safety of our human and furry friends on the streets, uppermost in our mind. And while Above The Line is known for its ability to organise and maintain everything, no matter how big or small on a film set, DOTS has its own mini productions every week where we will do our very best to take care of everything from help with life-saving veterinary surgery to providing dog treats to keep at hand in a pocket. Shared values are the basis of any great relationship and we’re absolutely thrilled to say that Above The Line is enabling DOTS to step forward and develop our reach even further out into the world, making a...

Sunday station 25…Smile for the camera doggies!

Sunday just gone saw a precious pack of 9 doggies come to see us for a visit. With our awesome Fee (Pamper Camper), Kimberley (City Dog Expert), a new vet  and our vet nurse making up the DOTS team for the afternoon, we were ready and waiting the arrival of our furiends… Watch this space too as we were also filming for another upcoming project that we can’t wait to fill you in on…but for now our lips are sealed! First up…oh hey Babe(y) girl… This little treasure Babe, never fails to put big smiles on the faces of Team DOTS. She’s a gem. She’s currently on regular meds that we fund and supply and next week she’ll be having a few more tests at one of our vet support practices. Graceful Ghost Look at this pretty little lady! How can such a precious thing be sleeping rough… It’s been a while since we last saw Ghost and her mumma so it was fab to see...

Sunday Station 24…Could you help us stock up on winter essentials?

Sunday Station 24…Could you help us stock up on winter essentials?

There was a hint of early Autumn in the air at our last Sunday station. The leaves were falling and some drizzly clouds were overhead. As the turn of the season rolls in, life starts to get tougher on the streets for our homeless friends and their beloved companions. Their minds turn to the looming  winter months and support from homeless organisations becomes even more vital. Whilst DOTS is first and foremost about the health and welfare of the street dogs, our aim is to help as many homeless doggy owners off the streets and into accommodation as possible, with their dogs. One of the main barriers to securing accommodation, even temporary, is the dogs themselves. Many landlords just don't allow them, regardless of their good behaviour and most homeless people would rather be on the streets with their best friends than in shelter without. The love between man and dog knows no bounds, homeless or not, and the powerful bond is...

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR SPIKE’S URGENT EYE SURGERY

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR SPIKE’S URGENT EYE SURGERY

Last week a gorgeous dog Spike came to see us at our Sunday station on The Strand. As he did the rounds of the different DOTS services with his dad, he ended up with a full health check with our vet. And this is when a problem was found… Poor Spike is suffering from a condition called Distichiasis in one of his eyes. This condition is where an eyelash grows from an abnormal spot on the eyelid and rubs against the eyeball, in Spike’s case causing excruciating ulcers.  If left untreated, Spike could lose his sight in one eye. In less than a week, DOTS has arranged with swift action to have Spike booked in for his operation next Thursday. But, we need help to fund this procedure. DOTS is a volunteer led not-for-profit and we solely rely on the kindness of donors to help us take good care of our growing number of registered DOTS doggies. As our numbers rise to almost 100 registered dogs, so...

Sunday station 23…Lights, camera, action!

Fresh from a wonderful day at Pup Aid the day before, last Sunday’s station on The Strand was equally as exciting for DOTS…wanna know why? Well, DOTS was honoured to have been contacted to film with the amazing Dr Scott Miller for the new series of Vet on the Hill! Wowee! The Vet on the Hill team were a pleasure to meet and work with and everyone including the street dogs thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Vet on the Hill returns to More4 in the Autumn, we’ll let you know when we know more…we hope they got our good sides... But back to what DOTS does best…treating the street dogs! First up, was Spike… Michelle had first heard of Spike through a DOTS supporter and arranged immediate care for his bad ear before they'd even met. Then Michelle bumped into him and dad at his follow up appointment and told them to come down to the station for essentials and goodies. So they did! Now, as...

A FUN DAY AT PUP AID 2017

A FUN DAY AT PUP AID 2017

Last Saturday morning, team DOTS were pitching up on a sunny Primrose Hill for a day of fun at the Pup Aid Fun Dog Show. The team were Michelle, Fiona, Kimberley and Sophie and they were all set for the festivities ahead and a big DOTS raffle. Alongside likeminded doggy loving brands, fundraisers and charities, DOTS was out to support the work of the wonderful founder of Pup Aid, vet and animal welfare campaigner Marc Abraham. Marc started Pup Aid 7 years ago and has attracted quite the celebrity following to help increase awareness and funding, from Ricky Gervais to Sinitta. Pup Aid is the ongoing campaign against the cruel puppy farming industry. The campaign promotes the adoption of rescue pets to drive down the lucrative but tragic demand of little pups, whilst also striving to have tougher laws passed. Pup Aid are big believers that all dogs are worthy of a happy home and safe environment, something that DOTS is also...

Super Sunday! Station number 22; from The Strand to Kent!

Super Sunday! Station number 22; from The Strand to Kent!

August Bank Holiday looked, for once, to be a sunshiny affair, but there was no rest for the wicked because Team DOTS were taking on TWO stations on this particular Sunday. First up was the usual 2-4pm set up on The Strand where the team consisted of Kimberley (trainer), Fee (groomer), Lui (vet), Stuart (head vet nurse) and volunteer Emma..plus of course Michelle. Cool bowls of water were dotted around the site in anticipation for our panting four legged friends. First up was little Gismo! This little sweetie popped by to have his post-op check up after being neutered last week, arranged by DOTS. His healing wound looked in tip top shape so after his stop with the vets it was time to stock up on food, goodies and toys. Our Babe… Of course this lovely lady stopped by to say hi, we wouldn't expect anything less! Her first stop was a cool down in a bubble bath courtesy of Fee’s Pamper Camper. But it’s not...

Sunday station 16…A busy day indeed!

Sunday station 16…A busy day indeed!

Sunday 16th of July saw the return of our weekly doggy station on The Strand and oh lordy was it a busy one! You never really know who might turn up from week to week and as our numbers of registered dogs grows all the time, we’re bound to have a bumper edition every now and then. With the street chalk art that one of our homeless buddies does for us all ready, we were set. This week we welcomed 8 doggies to our station… First up, Jethro…who likes to be up high! This boy is a right character. When his dad is on the move around London he quite often likes to have a better vantage point as he sits perched on his dads shoulders! He swung by to have his second vaccination and for dad to get some advice on having Jethro (ssssshhh…!) castrated. Of course dad wouldn't be in a position to pay for this procedure so DOTS is happy to start...
