Doggy station 12…and extra help from Marc the Vet and Shakira Free Miles!

June 18th. A beautiful summers day in a London completely shaken by the terrible incident at Grenfell Tower. And also, Fathers Day. A time for kids to treat their dads to a card and some of his favourite treats. And to just show the love, now more than ever it feels. And why should the love just be for human daddies hey? Team DOTS were again out in force, setting up the street station ready to welcome some fur babies and their own daddies to provide love, care and peace of mind. And of course, goodies! Excitingly, this particular week we were joined by two amazing volunteers; Marc the Vet and Shakira Free Miles. Marc is a practicing veterinary surgeon, author, and animal welfare campaigner based in Brighton, England and you might have seen him on your telly! He was the resident vet on The Paul O’Grady Show and regularly appears on shows like BBC Breakfast, This Morning and Good Morning Britain giving...

Station number 10…in a defiant London

Station number 10…in a defiant London

Sunday June 4th was a sad day as people awoke to the news of the terror attack near London Bridge the night before. Team DOTS made the decision on Sunday morning to carry on, not least because we wanted to ensure that our homeless friends and their doggies were accounted for and safe. On that note, we are delighted to say that each and every one is. It’s at times like these that human compassion is the only answer. We rally around those in need, those in shock and disbelief. And this is the essence of our values here at DOTS, through and through. Before we move on to covering our station last week, we just want to share a public wish of strength to those effected by the atrocious violent acts that took place. Our thoughts are with you… —————————————— Although London felt shaken and subdued last Sunday morning, it was a surprising day in that we still welcomed 8 street dogs to...

Doggy station 9…Misty and Cassie come for post op checkups plus we welcome another Tyson!

Hi, Vicky here…DOTS blogger, obviously! But this blog gets a bit more of a first hand account from me than most, because yesterday, Sunday May 28th was the first time I’d been to a DOTS station since coming on board to help. I arrived at The Strand around 1.30pm to find Michelle coordinating the set up and Jade parking up before starting to unload bits for the veterinary tent. I joined in time to help hoist up the red DOTS canopy alongside Pamper Camper Fee and vet Gabe before we started filling up the trestle tables with doggy essentials. Food from our partners Barking Heads, Nature Diet, treats from Huxley Hound (with their lovely Zena in attendance too), Kongs, leads, collars, harnesses and muzzles. Squeaky toys, poo bags, dog bowls. Bottles of water, foodie treats for the homeless doggy owners. My mind was already blown before we were ready to roll.             Because the weather was so warm this week, a...

Station number 8…meet our tiniest street dog yet and Cassie has surgery

As we gear up for possibly our hottest doggy station yet this coming Sunday (May 28th), not to mention our first focused inoculation session…let’s look back on last Sunday, May 21st… Each week, before the weekly station starts, quite often some of the homeless doggy owners now join us a little earlier to assist us in setting up. From helping us to secure the branded canopy, to decorating the pavement around us with lovely chalked artwork. Check this lot out! And last Sunday, to add to the already beautiful pavement art, we were visited by Sara Abbot and her friend Natasha who did a wonderful doggy portrait of one of our canine guests, Ty. Wow! Our first visit was from Lola who enjoyed one of our station Kongs filled up with Arden Grange paste which is a special yummy treat for these street dogs! Lola is such a lovely playful pup and when her belly was full she wanted to show...

Station number 7 and good luck to Misty!

Station number 7 and good luck to Misty!

Sunday 14th May and the weather was convincing us that British Summertime had finally landed. Team DOTS were getting ready for a busy day ahead not only with the seventh street station, but also for a visit to the All Dogs Matter Great Hampstead Bark Off event as their first stop that morning. Proudly wearing their DOTS t-shirts, Michelle and Jade did the rounds, meeting and greeting some lovely pooches and also met and chatted to celebrity judge, Michelle Collins...and her own furbaby, Humphrey! All Dogs Matter is a kind supporter of DOTS, supplying us with donated items so it was great for Michelle and Jade to squeeze in a visit to their event before hot footing it to The Strand. So as our branded canopy was hoisted up and the essentials table stocked right to the edges with goodies for the homeless doggy owners to help themselves to, the street station got underway. First up, let’s start with our wonderful Misty… This station...

Doggy station number 6…and meeting a second Gunner

Off the back of more wonderful media coverage for DOTS, including this piece on Metro Online, Sunday May 7th saw Michelle, Jade (Street Vets) and Kimberly (City Sit Stay) set up for another weekly doggy station. One of our regulars, Lola was first to arrive. Gorgeous Lola greeted people by the wonderful street art our dear homeless fried Dodge did for us. Lola did some work with Kimberley from City Sit Stay during her visit. They worked on some distraction training as Lola can get a little bit barky when other dogs approach her. It went really well! To be continued…                                    Then came Misty who sported a new branded neckerchief collar kindly sponsored by Zukie Style Ty returned to us from the week before, and had tons of fun with a new Kong teddy toy!                            ...

Doggy station number 5; the BIG one!

Doggy station number 5; the BIG one!

If ever there was a day to be most proud of and excited about DOTS (so far) it has to be Sunday April 30th. Following the circulation of our Press Release, media outlets had been in touch with Michelle with the wish to attend an upcoming station in order to offer more coverage of the work that goes into running a weekly pop up for the homeless and their dogs. With keen interest from the BBC, Metro newspaper and London Live, April 30th was the date that the DOTS team started working to. Donations came in for Michelle to be able to order a branded stand in time for the station, and she also made sure that all team members could be easily identified by way of branded t-shirts. The generous input from our product partners started to roll in too as the date quickly approached. The wonderful Barking Bakery made and supplied us with mouth watering doggy cakes and popcorn as extra special treats...

Station Number 4; Easter treats and returning a lost doggy…..

Easter Sunday. A time for big hot roast dinners and chocolate egg scoffing for most. But this Easter saw the DOTS team out in action and ready to welcome doggy visitors to our 4th street station. What a month! It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind. No sooner had we launched this initially monthly project, we were making them weekly. And it’s the best decision we’ve made. Seeing repeat visits from some of our street dogs, plus welcoming newbies makes us so very grateful to everyone who is helping us make this possible. If you could see the gratitude on the homeless owners faces and the joy from the doggies having a play and a pamper, it would melt your heart. We love doing what we do, and we are so excited for this to keep growing and developing, possibly nationwide. In the last week we’ve also issued an official press release, our first one since launch! Eeeeek! The intention is to help...

Doggy station number 3 & the decision to go weekly

Sunday 9th April, the hottest day of the year so far. And while hoards of people flocked to parks and seasides to take full advantage of the Spring sunshine, DOTS were of course out in action with our doggy station. Before pitching up on The Strand, founder Michelle detoured to pick up 180 bottles of mineral water in preparation for meeting the homeless and their hot dogs. Some for slurping, some for splashing. The DOTS team saw the warm weather as a great opportunity to educate the doggy owners as to the importance of keeping their dogs hydrated. We welcomed 4 dogs to our station this time round… Playful newbie, Rocky who was recommended by a previous station visitor. His owner was a bit concerned about a lump he’d found on him so we promised that on his next visit he will get free access to our street vet for further specialist inspection. Rocky is now registered with DOTS by way of one of...

A sunny day for doggy station number 2 – The Strand London

April 2nd saw us setting up for doggy station number two, but this time the sun shone for us and our four-legged friends who paid a visit. Again the wonderful DOTS team were in action; Jade the Street Vet,Fees Pamper Camper, City Sit Stay, plus our wonderful supporters Huxley Hound and charity All Dogs Matter. Remember Misty from our first doggy station? Well, she came back for more! It’s so nice to see familiar faces return to us for essential care…and in Misty’s case a lot of donated biscuits from the wonderful Gails Bakery and Huxley Hound! She chomped those down in no time, before enjoying a nice bubble bath of course, courtesy of Fee’s Pamper Camper.     A really encouraging thing happened regarding Misty too. A few days prior to the station, DOTS founder Michelle received a phone call from someone who had ‘found’ Misty on the streets. Thanks to the I.D tag on her collar supplied at the first station, the...
